Fuel Scarcity: Seal Stations Hoarding Fuel, Senate Tells DPR

As Nigerians continue to purchase petroleum products at high rates, the chairman of the Senate Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources investigating the lingering fuel scarcity in the country, Senator Magnus Abe, has asked the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to seal any filling station hoarding the products.

Senate Receives National Conference Report

The Senate on Tuesday received the report of the National Conference from President Goodluck Jonathan for consideration.
The letter accompanying the report, which was read by the President of the Senate, David Mark, indicated that the conference report had been deliberated upon and approved for implementation by the Federal Executive Council.

How Laudable Is FG’s N9.2bn Clean Stoves Project?

The federal government, in 2014 under the presidential intervention for the clean cookstove, approved the sum of N9.2 billion for the purchase of stoves for women in the rural areas.
The initiative came about because of the effect of the constant felling of trees on the environment. Constant felling of trees has resulted in desertification in the north and erosion problems in the south of the country.

Women Forum Demands 50% Gender Equity In Buhari’s Government

The Women in Politics Forum [WIPF] a network of women groups yesterday demanded for a 50 per cent equity in the distribution of appointments in the incoming government of President Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari.
The women who held a media briefing yesterday, specifically requested for key positions from the incoming government including the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, the National Security Adviser, Secretary to the Federal Government, the Ministry of Justice among others be reserved for women.

We’re Ready For Queries, Sambo Tells Buhari’s C’ttee

Vice President Namadi Sambo yesterday told the Ahmed Joda-led Transition Committee set up by the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, that he and ministers that served under President Goodluck Jonathan are open to questioning.
He said members of the Federal Executive Council were ready to respond to queries and questions that might be directed at them on how they had administered the country between 2011 and 2015.

Gov. Chime Inaugurates New governor’s Office For Successor

Gov. Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Thursday inaugurated a multi-billion naira governor’s office for his successor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at Government House, Enugu.
 Commissioning the edifice, Chime said it was constructed to ease the work and operations of the incoming administration.
 He said the building would also create conducive environment for workers in government house for improved productivity.
“We want to build a permanent office for the incoming governor. We have looked at things and we felt it will be a lot cheaper and easier to build an office like this.

Abia names structures after Onu, others

With less than 10 days to leave office, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has named the state’s newly-built ultra modern electronic library, located at Ogurube Layout Umuahia, after the first Civilian Governor of the State and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
Onu was the first civilian Governor of Abia state under the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention  from January 1992 to November 1993 when the then civilian administration was disrupted by the military.
According to a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa and obtained by The PUNCH in Umuahia, the  Governor also named the 1st Wing of the new Civil Servants’ Secretariat, Umuahia, after an elder statesman, the late G.C.Okezie.

Mu’azu, Anenih Resign As PDP Chairman, BOT Chairman

Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chief Tony Anehih , Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), on Wednesday, resigned their positions.
Anenih’s resignation was contained in a statement issued by Prof. Adewale Oladipo, the PDP National Secretary.

APC Governors Adopt Strategies For Improved Governance

Outgoing and incoming Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved to replicate positive governance strategies in all APC-controlled states.
This is contained in a communiqué released shortly after a one-day retreat attended by the APC governors in Abuja on Wednesday.

Boko Haram: 600 Soldiers Face Court Martial In Lagos, Abuja

The Nigerian Army yesterday said about 600 of its officers and soldiers were facing court martial for various offences, before the general courts-martial sitting in Lagos and Abuja.
The army authorities also explained that the Army Council had not sat to either confirm or reverse the death sentence passed last year on 66 soldiers convicted for mutiny by a general court-martial, making it difficult for the victims to appeal the verdict.
