Power: Fashola settles dispute between EEDC, Geometric Power

Abuja – The Federal Government on Thursday settled the power dispute between Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and Geometric Power Limited over which of the two companies would supply power to Aba and its environs. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, said in Abuja where the companies signed an agreement that the settlement of the dispute was a historic achievement in the sector. He said that it was important that two former ministers in the country, Prof. Barth Nnaji and Mr Tokunbo Kayode, were on different sides of the dispute.

BlackBerry’s first Android phone may cost more than the best Android phones

Rather than announcing its first Android phone, BlackBerry has taken the odd strategy of just letting every detail about the device leak out and then casually referencing it in an official capacity every now and then. The latest detail to leak out is the phone's pricing, which apparently comes in at $749. The information was published along with the phone's specs on a preorder page that went up prematurely on BlackBerry's site last night. Android Central caught the listing while it was live, and it says that $749 is the phone's US price, with its Canadian price coming in at $949.

Gartner: First quarter of 2015 saw iOS draw a little closer to Android

Gartner's latest data on the global smartphone industry was released today, and it shows that Apple continued to show growth in the first quarter. While Android still led the way with 265 million units shipped during the three month period, Google's open source OS had a slight decline with its share of the world-wide smartphone market declining from 80.8% to 78.9% year-over-year. Apple's iOS saw its slice of the smartphone pie increase from 15.3% in Q1 2014 to 17.9% for the first quarter of 2015. Apple shipped 60.2 million iPhones in the January through March period, up from the 43.1 million it had in transit during the same period last year.

Fashola Advocates Patronage Of Made-In-Nigeria Goods

Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Thursday said the country stood to gain a lot if citizens patronised locally produced goods.
The governor made the statement while speaking at the state’s 6th Artisans and Tradesmen Day celebration.
He said that patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods would enhance local production capacities, resulting in job creation and reduction of poverty.

The Peoples Republic of China says it is ready to partner with Nigeria and other African countries to fight piracy and other forms of intellectual property theft.
