Abia names structures after Onu, others

With less than 10 days to leave office, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has named the state’s newly-built ultra modern electronic library, located at Ogurube Layout Umuahia, after the first Civilian Governor of the State and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
Onu was the first civilian Governor of Abia state under the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention  from January 1992 to November 1993 when the then civilian administration was disrupted by the military.
According to a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa and obtained by The PUNCH in Umuahia, the  Governor also named the 1st Wing of the new Civil Servants’ Secretariat, Umuahia, after an elder statesman, the late G.C.Okezie.

Similarly, the 2nd Wing of  the Civil Servants’  Secretariat  was renamed A.E.N. Izuwa Block.
According to the release, the  Housing Estate on Adelabu Street Umuahia was  renamed Amaokwe Housing Estate while the Housing Estate at Old Timber Shed Umuahia is now to be known as  Ohobo Housing Estate.
In the same vein, the Housing Estate at former Ministry of Lands, Umuahia was renamed N.C. Okoronkwo Estate.
Others are the New JAAC Building now to be called  Prof. Eni Njoku Building, while  the New ASUBEB Building now renamed Jaja Nwachukwu Building.
